Ku Band
The Trend Of The Present Age
This site focusses the transmissions of digital Ku Band signals and eventually analogic signals transitted by domestic and international satellites, placed in several Clark Belt slots and intended to cover Brazil and South America service demand, such as Free-to-Air TV, radio, data and internet streams. It has been planned under the main objective of supporting students, researchers and hobbyists for educational purposes, provided that the reception comes be done under local law regulations and no infringements of copy and properties rights of operators exist, with emphasis in the signals transmitted over South America as Free To Air to be received by all countries in this American Continent.
The US, European, Asian and mainly Japanese satellites, since the 80´s, use Ku Band frequency transponders. Brazil, however, because of technical and maybe strategic reasons dit not have the option of using Ku Band frequency transponders in its A and B series of Brasisat satellites.
Even not using in the Brasisat A1, A2, B1, B2, B3 and B4 a frequency plan of the the Ku Band spectrum, it has been necessary to local Brazilian operators, during the last past years, to contract Ku Band services from other international satellites, to cover specific demand of data transmission, internet stream, DTH Televison Services and other further applications. Presently, the demand for services in Ku Band frequencies is growing rapidly and because Brazil largely depends on satellites transissions in C Band as well in Ku Band, the next generation of Star One satellites is being programmed with the inclusion of Ku frequencies.
Differently from C Band satellite of which transmissions cover global, hemispheric and zone areas, in the begining the footprints of Ku Band satellites were were narrower and were focussed in small areas. For this reason, the transmissions of Ku Band signals were more appropriate to cover areas with expressive density of countries, like observed in Europa, or areas where the territory of one country was shared by many operators, as in United States, Canada or even in countries of reduced territorial area like Japan.
Brazil, due to its continental territory, had the need of using satellite TV transmissions as a national integration factor, mainly to reache communities spread over the Amazonas areas, not served by off-air TV transmissions. Besides using C Band satellite transmissions as integration factor, the frequencies in the range of 3.7-4.2 GHz were more adequate, since it does not suffer the fading effect as Ku Band does in areas where the pluviometric precipitation is present in large periods of the year, as it occurs in rain forest region of Amazonas. Therefore, the frequencies of C Band were indicated for the regional integration purposes, orienting then the use of C Band in the last two generations of Brasilsat satellites placed in the geosynchronous orbit.
In reason of increasing need of using of frequencies of Ku Band, with the liberation of telecommunication monopoly in Brazil and the globalization of services, StarOne, an Embratel shared afiliate with rights over Brasilsat fleet of satellites has planned for the next generation of Brazilian satellites, under serie C, the use of a mix of C Band, Ku Band and X Band, for military purposes. The assigned positions for the C1 and C2 Brasilsat/Star One satellites will be at 65W and 70W, probaly replacing the Brasilsat B1 and B2, presently with life time near to its end.
By using Ku Band it is expected the Brazilian demand in this area will be satisfied in the next years to come.>
This site, as an open portal to serve Brazilian and South American visitors, has the intention of better offering informations on reception of TV satellite, including in these informations eventual flying away feeds, technical matter, howto´s, equipments for TVRO and sponsored ads. This site is also intended to be a forum for discussions in relation to all relevant subject around Satellite TV to support students, hobbyists, technicians, spread nationwide, including all those living in all neighbor countries of Latin America, mainly in Mercosur boundaries.
This way, it is opened the opportunity to gather in this particular internet portal informations of utility, to fulfill a lack no longer existing, because: THIS IS YOUR KU BAND PORTAL. MAKE IT YOUR FAVORITE SITE. BE THE NEXT TO ENTER THE WORLD OF FREE-TO-AIR SATELLITE TV. WE WILL DO THE BEST TO HELP YOU. We thank your confidence.
